DIY wedding feature in Ruffledblog

Written by , Posted in DIY, Featured, Vintage

We all have doilies hanging around somewhere.  Whether it be resting on a windowsill under a potted plant or tucked away in a box at your parents’ house.  Together with Revelry Creative, we teamed up to recreate these crochêd little gems.
Another big thank you to Ruffled Blog for featuring the step by step how-to for this DIY wedding project.  Check it out!

DIY wedding feature chicago ruffled blog
Here are the step by steps:

Supplies:
– Flour
– Water
– Balloons
– Vintage Doilies
– Cups (to place balloon doily molds upright while drying)

Directions:
Blow balloons up to match the size of the doilies (smaller doilies require smaller balloons)
Mix 1 part flour to 1 part water for paste
Dip the doily fully into the Mixture
Wipe excess mixture off of doily
Place the doily on top of the balloon
Place the doily balloon form on top of the cup
Let sit for 3 days until the dome doily structure has hardened.

Let the air out of the balloon and the dry doily will hold the dome shape on its own for decorating.

The perfectly awesome wooden nose was found at City Antiques over in Grand Rapids, MI. Thanks Christi and Dan!!

Antique of the Week: Oversized Coffeepot

Written by , Posted in personal, Vintage

To aid our growing love and need for coffee, Jason and I stumbled upon a delightful coffeepot filled with post caffeinated cheer at an antique mall. The design and pops of bright and vibrant colors are the perfect aid to excite the sleepy eye.  AND! To mention that the Rooster reminds my a bit of a vintage version of all the Portuguese roosters at the Markets and colored towns on my trip to Portugal with my parents when I was in middle school. Haven’t seen them before? Image search ‘Portuguese Roosters’ on google! They’re fantastic!!!

Jen and Andy’s Lovely DIY Upcycled Vintage Chicago Wedding Photography

Written by , Posted in Vintage, Wedding

I am quite pleased to share Jen and Andy’s amazingly lovely Chicago wedding photography details on their big day.  Everything from Jen’s ring to the place cards was either created herself, or a fantastic Etsy find. Or! From Andy’s childhood. The wedding itself was at Andy’s parents’ backyard, along with a stop at their family farm.

Jen’s cards and design skills?  Why you can see them on her site here. And the lovely little flag cake topper? Why, adorning the most delicious vegan cake of course!

After the wedding, Jen and Andy set out on an antiquing road trip across the south- with some excellent photos and finds along the way.

Rocky the Best man?  Why of course!
