Happy Easter! Easter Egg Natural Dye Recipes Experiments!

Written by , Posted in DIY

easter egg natural dye DIY

Hello hello! Happy Spring and Happy Easter! Holy cow, so much has happened since we went on hiatus from blogging.  So much to share! With the amazing weather this weekend, I found it fitting to freshen up the blog a bit, and what better to start with than a Easter egg natural dye recipe experiment.

We have so many amazing weddings to share from last year, 27 weddings along with a ton of engagement sessions. But first, lets begin with some dyed eggs.

To start off with, here is what you will need:
White and Brown Eggs
Red Cabbage
Blackberries (1lb)
Red Onion Skins (from approx a 3 lb bag)
Turmeric(3 Tablespoons)
White Vinegar (1 Tablespoon in each pot)

I used about 1/3 of a cabbage for each of the different blues (one with vinegar, one without) But! You can use a whole cabbage for a deep wonderful blue.

First, in each of your separate pots, put your ingredients in, trying to use little water- but enough to cover the eggs once they go in.  After each pot is filled, and the eggs are placed- bring the pot to a boil for 15 minutes. Take the pot off the stove, and let it rest until it’s cool- then you put the pots in the refrigerator overnight. The next day, use a slotted spoon to carefully take the eggs out (not to disturb the dye film on the egg) and let them dry fully.
Arrange and enjoy!

*You can also boil the fruits and veggies in the pots separate, to create a dye solution- but time was of the essence this weekend, so I just put everything in together.

Egg Dye Info

Had to use iPhone photos for these photos- my fingers were covered in dye.  Hope the info-graph helps and cheers to all of the upcoming weddings and engagements to share! Happy Spring!

Owen and Matt’s Chicago Cozy Noodle Engagement

Written by , Posted in Engagement

Growing up, I was surrounded by nostalgia. Tin and wooden toys are a few of my favorite things- so when we went to Cozy Noodle for Owen and Matt’s Chicago engagement photography session, we had a plethora of amazingness. Added in with that, the interior of the space paired with the autumn backdrop colors quite well. Fall in Illinois is downright breathtaking. So when Owen and Matt said they had a blanket- well, we had a field. 🙂
They are getting married at Architectural Artifacts later this summer, so speaking of being surrounded by nostalgia- it couldn’t be at a better wedding venue. Can’t wait!

A Chicago Engagement Photography Session- Bea and Steven

Written by , Posted in Engagement

Bea and Steven are getting married tomorrow!! So, what a perfect time to share their Chicago engagement photography session!
Knock on wood- we have thankfully bypassed the crazy snow/hail storm today to make room for a bright sunny day for their wedding at Artango tomorrow. Being a lover of Jeans over Lace- Bea was super excited to get Chicago engagement photography done as a great way to practice before their big day. Steven and Bea met when Bea started teaching at Steven’s school. She was placed under Steven’s wing to co-teach with, and it all started from there. That first date? Well, it didn’t start as a date, just as friends going out for a drink at a Sports bar-  but throughout those hours, those looks across across the table, you just know something special is taking place- and from Bea voicing her feelings, it all started from there.
Can’t wait for tomorrow! 🙂

Jenna and Matt’s Chicago Engagement Photo Session

Written by , Posted in Engagement

chicago wedding photographer engagement photography session 1Something about Jenna’s Navy blue dress makes me swoon. I’m a HUGE fan of deep blues for engagement sessions, it’s just the right pop of subtle color. Along with jeans paired with jackets that Matt is sporting. Jenna and Matt just moved to Chicago from Milwaukee- into the neck of the woods I moved to when I first came to Chicago. (Hope you two had a chance to stop by Matilda, the cocktails are delicious!)
Jenna and Matt are having their wedding at the Royal Fox Country Club in St. Charles this summer. Can’t wait! Oh, and make sure to check out their DIY save the date panels they made at the bottom of the post!
