Chicago Engagement Photography – Heidi and Eric

Written by , Posted in Engagement, Love

When Jason and I met Heidi and Eric for coffee, it felt like we knew them.  There is something about them that brings back loads of memories of good times past.  They are a perfect catch for each other- Heidi, you’re absolutely lovely.  And Eric is so incredibly funny. 🙂 The type of person that you can grab a beer with and laugh for hours.  Good humor indeed.  Actually, he reminds me of my friend Dave from Boston- which those good times were always had.

We began this Chicago engagement photography session in the morning with – Heidi and Eric a nautical theme by the beach- with bunches of little boats conveniently lined up for our session. The sky was intense, I cannot get enough of the clouds this week!  Perhaps it’s making up for lost time from this winter. After the beach, we headed over to the amazing Garfield Park Conservatory, located over by the Greenline.  Eric actually had to head to work after the engagement session, along with the day we first met (a Sunday mind you). Given the fact that being a sports writer/commentator, you work when people play (literally).  Heidi and Eric are getting married at Independence Grove in May of next year, filled with 1100 acres of photo ops. Excited about the countless possibilities!  See you two next year. 🙂

Elizabeth and Brian Engagement

Written by , Posted in Engagement, Love

These shots make me realize how much I love this city, just as Elizabeth and Brian do. Between starting the early morning off at a giant freshwater sunrise and simply walking across acres upon acres of park, playgrounds with scenic skylines, and nature- so many possibilities! I can go off track with hours of ideas and stumbling intos. Elizabeth proposed for a shoot in the Park, just over by the North Pond, which was conveniently located by a fantastic gazebo settled by quite a large flock of Canadian Geese (no worries, we excused ourselves for them to move out of our shot).

You guys were great and Elizabeth, your dress was perfect for every setting!  We can’t wait to see you again in less than 5 months!

Katherine and David Hyde Park Engagement!

Written by , Posted in Engagement, Love

Spring seemed to be easy in Chicago this year- though, in contrast to the popular saying… May seemed to go in like a Polar Bear and OUT like a Lion. With a delightfully epic roar of a photo op for this Hyde Park Engagement.  Given, all of our lessons in lighting setups are a big shout out to Strobist and Flashfavor for the mounds of knowledge we soak in from their helpful teachings. 🙂

Originally, Katherine and David were going to bring their adorable new puppy along, but come to find out they now have two!  Little baby huskies, and adorable too- I have a bit of puppy envy right now.

Katherine and David’s fun and festive wedding is coming up in exactly 2 weeks at the Hilton Orrington Hotel up in Evanston.  And! It’s a brunch wedding, which always gets me excited- the morning sun of the ladies getting ready? It’s going to be great!

Every time I’ve met David, I feel as though he should be a professor.  While taking photos, he was like a kid in a candy store with all of the delightful history books all over the place.  Plus, he studied in Israel for a few years, on top of being a history buff.

Deanna and John’s Vintage Chicago Tiki Wedding

Written by , Posted in Love, Vintage, Wedding

John knows just about everything there is to know about the topic of Tiki Bar Culture.  Which goes perfectly with Deanna’s love for anything retro and vintage inspired. Which made for some Chicago Tiki wedding amazingness. In my opinion, that makes John and Deanna the perfect match- especially since they met on The Onion. On top of that, John and Deanna’s wedding was the last event at Marriott O’hare‘s Nikko Room- scheduled to be remodeled from a classic Tiki Lounge to a convention center.  Bittersweet end of an era of sorts. Tiki culture you say? According to Wikipedia (which must be true) 🙂 The first Tiki Bar was built in Los Angeles in 1933.  Soon after, over the next decade, Tiki Bars started popping up all over the United States, with the common decor of primitive tropical cultures in a romanticized fashion.  Given, I know very little, but I bet John could write a 200 page info book filled with excellent factoids.

Deanna chose to go to the Tigerlilie Salon, to get ready with her mom and sister- a fun afternoon with the ladies filled with victory rolls and vintage waves.  Which, of course, go perfectly with tiki lounges, and Deanna’s Dolly Couture Wedding Dress, and her Grandmother’s pink crystal necklace.  The ladies at Tigerlilie were great, they knew all of the hairstyles (my personal favorite is the beehive) and used vintage hot coil rollers you just can’t find anymore.

John’s tie was made by the fabulous Lee Allison Company– which, ironically enough, we just read a mini article about them. English silk?  excellent. And! They’re a local Chicago Bucktown company.  The cake?  If you might notice, matches the exterior tile of the hotel. Deanna and John’s wedding focused on the fun, which always makes for a great time.  It was excellent meeting you guys and a blast to be at your special day, I wish you as much fun in life as you had on your wedding. 🙂

Leia and Antwan’s Wedding

Written by , Posted in Love, Wedding

I love the way Antwan looks at Leia. In all of the shots, you can just see it- the sparkly in their eyes, the flirting.  I love that. Seriously though, their body language is like a new love that will never fade, there is something about the way Antwan loves Leia- with his whole heart.

With that said, I still can’t get enough of how they told their story of how they met. Antwan asking for Leia’s number while when she met him at her workplace, thinking it’s business, she gave him her business number. Don’t worry, he got her real number less than 24 hours later. 🙂

The day started at the Oak Lawn Hilton- with all of the ladies busily getting ready, and the guys had a chance to go and play hoops in Hyde Park. And everything was perfect.  Perfect dresses, perfect earrings, and perfect friends. The sun even decided to peak out of the rain clouds after the ceremony, giving us a chance to enjoy the outdoors for a bit.

Including, the garter bouquet tosses- filled with toy squirt guns, granny panties, and ladies dancing in unison to Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies’.
