Travel in Central America- Honduras
This is our last travel post, I promise- then back to our bride’s amazing weddings.
Copan Ruinas in Honduras was amazing, we were also glad we had a chance to stop by the Macaw Rescue Sanctuary near the ruins. Birds are rescued from all over Central America, and the people there work to put them back into their natural habitat, mostly the Macaws, who hang out at the tops of the trees at the Copan Ruinas not too far from the Sanctuary. A large part of their mission is to not only rescue the birds, but to also educate people that birds are a lifetime commitment.
At Copan, we had the most amazing tour guide, Sergio, who is a retired excavator- so he knew all of the ins and outs of the site. The ruins, at one time were painted white and red- an entire city underground in vivid color. You can still see it on some of the statues at the site.
Though we didn’t get to visit Panama, their cityscape is AMAZING- I was quite thankful we had our connecting flight there and were able to view Panama City from afar.
