Happy New Year!!! So this year has already been awesome (and full of surprises) over on this side of the computer screen. We just got back from an epic trip to Cuba with a few photography friends. All I have to say is- GO. GO- experience it, it’s amazing.
Anyway, I digress… So when we got back from out trip, a wonderful magnetic Save-the-Date was sitting in our snailmail box. From! These two lovelies. 🙂 So it felt fitting to share Lexie and Michael’s Chicago engagement session in Wicker Park with you guys.
We started Lexie and Michael’s Chicago engagement session in Wicker Park, the neighborhood they live in. And- And!!! You guys now get to witness the cutest, most photogenic dog ever. Meet Oliver. The most chill, fluffy, and wiggly little pup ever. So, of course, we started their Chicago engagement session in Wicker Park- to be able to snag a few shots of this guy.
Lexie and Michael are getting married at Blackhawk Hotel later this year, in Iowa. I cannot wait to share their photos at that space!! All Blackhawk Hotel weddings look awesome from what I’ve seen online. Cheers and enjoy. 🙂
Gah, Lexie, your hair looks awesome even on a super blustery day. (Yea, I said blustery- everyone in Winnie the Pooh would have been proud)
Meet Becky and Zack. They were willing to wake up for a sunrise Chicago engagement session with us. Crazy troopers, I tell you.
My eyeballs feel like burning needles when I wake up this early, but every time I get to witness the sunrise, I’m grateful for actually waking up. It’s like you have the whole city to yourself for a sunrise Chicago engagement session.
Not to mention- Becky’s laugh is contagious. These two lovelies are having their wedding festivities at the Cityview Loft here in Chicago. Though we wont be waking up early like for the sunrise Chicago engagement session, it’ll be amazing light no matter what at that venue. 🙂
We stopped by the first apartment, which happens to be right down the street from where they currently live. And I was Jones-ing for some symmetry. 🙂 These two are so cool.
After that, we headed to their current place, and had some puppy engagement session time.
Okay- sooo the righthand image below is one of my favorite things ever. Every time I see it, it just cracks me right up. Attack of the flying puppy!!!
…the sweetest flying puppy. 🙂 Becky and Zack are the absolute best. Lets finish it off with their back entry stairwell. <3 So excited for your Cityview Lofts wedding this fall!! Thank you so much for waking up for a sunrise Chicago engagement session with us. xoxo
Eee! Now for a Marfa Texas Engagement Session. Ashley and Caleb are getting married in exactly one month from today on Caleb’s family farm near Austin Texas. We absolutely adore these two, and I bet their texas wedding will be amazing. A bit about them, Ashley is yoga master extra-ordinaire. Caleb is an amazing tattoo artist. You can find his work here.
Most of Ashley’s wardrobe was from Anthropologie, a store we all know and love (I think I could purchase all of their knobs, because you know- someday you might find
yourself needing a pile of knobs!) While her colorful coat is from Peru.
We spent the whole session at El Cosmico, a fancy trailer hotel- filled with colorful rigs, teepees, and yurts… it’s essentially a slightly overpriced hipster paradise, and I cannot wait to go back! (We skipped Big Bend National Park, which is due south from Marfa, so we have to go back!) The owner of El Cosmico also has a boutique hotel in Austin. We look most of our photos in Little Pinky, which is where Ashley and Caleb stayed as well as TeePee #2, which is where Jason and I stayed. The teepee was suprisingly warm, especially for a cold Texas desert winter night.
Ashley and Caleb have been living together with their adorable dog in Austin for most of their adult lives, which is the perfect city for them. I love Austin. Speaking of towns in Texas, Marfa is pretty extraordinary! It’s super tiny, like less than 2,000 people tiny. But it has a massive art scene, which started back in the 1960’s and 1970’s and grew with the coming of the Chinati Foundation. Though, it’s about a 7 hour drive from Austin. Which goes well with the town’s slogan: “Hard to get to, and harder to explain.” And that takes us back to why Caleb and Ashley had a Marfa Texas Engagement Session.
The last shot in the post is actually a film photo taken by one of our Contax645 120mm film cameras. 🙂
Super congrats you guys, you are so incredibly wonderful and sweet. xoxoxo
John and Lily had their Chicago engagement session with us the week of their wedding as they live in Sunny and Tropical Hawaii. They wanted to have their wedding in fabulous Chicago since family is based all over the US and Canada, and Chicago makes for a great meeting point (thank you O’hare airport, we couldn’t do it without you) 🙂
I always find it wonderful when families travel for important life events, the closeness and emotion is lovely.
John and Lily met through John’s sister, with whom Lily was fast friends with back in San Diego- and the love blossomed from there. In the midst of planning their own ‘destination’ wedding of sorts from Hawaii, John was also serving our country overseas. Our favorite question for them was when we asked if/where they plan on going on their honeymoon, they simply answered ‘No, we live in Hawaii.’ So true, so true.
By the way, John has quite an excellent fashion sense, between Lily’s wedding shoe hunt for the perfect color and John’s multi-print pocket square, I cannot wait for you to see their wedding. In the meantime, here is their Chicago Engagement Session.
We met Cherita and Zeus initially a few weeks ago and they wanted to get their Chicago Lincoln Park Engagement Photography session finished straight away so that they can make their save the dates. I am so happy the weather cooperated with amazing vibrant ombré hues of a sunset.
Before heading around town, we met them at Atomix Cafe, in Ukrainian Village for a few shots at a coffee shop, astronaut mural included. Thank you Atomix for letting us take a few photos at your awesome coffee shop space.
Cherita and Jesus’ wedding is going to be AMAZING! A blend of Mexican and Indian cultures, from henna to a mariachi band. I cannot wait for their festivities and to see which family traditions they will put together. Eeek! Okay, onto the ombré hued amazingness.
My favorite set- these two horizontal bits of loveliness. Cheri, your eyes are mesmerizing.
