Laura and Chris are getting married today!!!! So I thought it would be fun to share their engagement session from the fall. We had the opportunity to photograph part of their session at the CAA. We also got to go all over the west loop as well as catch some dreamy chicago cityscape light. They are getting married at the Chicago Athletic Association today! Here are some snappy snaps.
Now, for their Chicago Athletic Association Engagement Session. <3
The fall colors in chicago were absolutely incredible. The kissy shot was the view from the CAA for their Chicago Athletic Association engagement session. 🙂 And Laura’s dress? GAH! It is amazing! Ok, a skirt/top combo, which she pulled off smashingly. Oh I can’t wait to show you guys her dress! A bit from their Chicago athletic association engagement session wedding over the weekend as well. 🙂 I had to add of of this loveliness in, because it’s still fresh in my mind. The maid of honor was Laura’s sister, Amy, and she had the most wonderful speech! She told the story of how Laura and Chris met, and how their first date in Elmhurst went on and on and on- to the point of where Chris ended up spending the night at Laura’s parents house with the family, on a separate floor of course. Amy thought it was hilarious, and couldn’t wait for the morning to come, but Chris already snuck out of the house and walked over a mile down the road to a laundry mat in order to charge his phone in order to be able to call a cab back to his car. When they saw each other again, they were essentially inseparable.
It was an incredibly sweet story, and I am so thankful to have been able to be present for it! As well as another thank you for having us a part of your Chicago Athletic Association Engagement Session.
Spring is here! And with spring, comes Chicago engagement session time as the city ‘springs’ to life again. We got to meet Carrie and Michael and shoot at their house, as well as around Lincoln Square, and Montrose Harbor for their Chicago engagement session. Woo! Wait for it… there’s a cat too. 🙂
Their Chicago engagement session was filled with jean jackets and wonderful navy combos- which went really well with the red curtains Carrie and Michael have in the apartment, yea it’s a weird thing to note, but I notice those things. Micheal’s been at their place for 5 years and it’s always great to be able to add those types of personal touches into a chicago engagement session.
Once the grass became it’s good old green self again, we set out to photograph Carrie and Michael’s engagement session. They even included their wonderful kitty, Cali, when we got photos of them hanging out in their Lincoln Square apartment. Cali pretty much stole the show- it was hard to not post every photo of her. Ha!
We ended up at Montrose Harbor to catch a little bit of the Chicago cityscape, which is one of my favorite views of the city because you get the Willis Tower, Drumpf Tower and Hancock all in one swoop.
Carrie and Michael are getting married at Ovation Chicago this fall, which is owned by the the cool DJ dudes over at Style Matters. They are some of our favorite wedding DJs in Chicago. Super friendly, and I’m excited about their Chicago wedding space.
We almost got Lincoln Square to ourselves, which is pretty awesome as there’s usually a ton of people hanging out on the benches and having a good time. Can’t wait for you guys’ Chicago wedding this fall! Thank you for the awesome engagement session and I’m so glad we got good weather up in Montrose Harbor. 🙂
Eee! Now for a Marfa Texas Engagement Session. Ashley and Caleb are getting married in exactly one month from today on Caleb’s family farm near Austin Texas. We absolutely adore these two, and I bet their texas wedding will be amazing. A bit about them, Ashley is yoga master extra-ordinaire. Caleb is an amazing tattoo artist. You can find his work here.
Most of Ashley’s wardrobe was from Anthropologie, a store we all know and love (I think I could purchase all of their knobs, because you know- someday you might find
yourself needing a pile of knobs!) While her colorful coat is from Peru.
We spent the whole session at El Cosmico, a fancy trailer hotel- filled with colorful rigs, teepees, and yurts… it’s essentially a slightly overpriced hipster paradise, and I cannot wait to go back! (We skipped Big Bend National Park, which is due south from Marfa, so we have to go back!) The owner of El Cosmico also has a boutique hotel in Austin. We look most of our photos in Little Pinky, which is where Ashley and Caleb stayed as well as TeePee #2, which is where Jason and I stayed. The teepee was suprisingly warm, especially for a cold Texas desert winter night.
Ashley and Caleb have been living together with their adorable dog in Austin for most of their adult lives, which is the perfect city for them. I love Austin. Speaking of towns in Texas, Marfa is pretty extraordinary! It’s super tiny, like less than 2,000 people tiny. But it has a massive art scene, which started back in the 1960’s and 1970’s and grew with the coming of the Chinati Foundation. Though, it’s about a 7 hour drive from Austin. Which goes well with the town’s slogan: “Hard to get to, and harder to explain.” And that takes us back to why Caleb and Ashley had a Marfa Texas Engagement Session.
The last shot in the post is actually a film photo taken by one of our Contax645 120mm film cameras. 🙂
Super congrats you guys, you are so incredibly wonderful and sweet. xoxoxo
Sarah and Kyle has the most amazing wedding at the Galleria Marchetti wedding courtyard. Everything and everyone was literally glowing with warmth, it was absolutely magical! We couldn’t have asked for more amazing light. Sarah and Kyle planned out the Galleria Marchetti wedding ceremony time during golden hour, which I send a big thank you shout out to them for the perfect timing.
And Sarah’s dress? BHLDN! On a side note, thank you bhldn for always giving brides beautiful hangers for wedding dress photos, we really appreciate that.
One of my favorite things about Sarah is that she is smiling in every photo, seriously- even if it was cloudy on their fall Chicago wedding day, she would have been glowing. For their ceremony, they had each person who walked down the aisle put a stone into a glass jar, as a blessing to the couple, it was a really sweet wedding idea. And with their Galleria Marchetti wedding set in the outdoor garden area, we all really lucked out on the fact that there was no rain- but! even if there was, the Galleria Marchetti wedding space indoors also looks amazing with their side window light and white tented ceilings. So it’s kind of a win-win on any day, especially when you don’t know how chicago wedding weather will act.
A huge thank you to all of the chicago wedding vendors we had the opportunity to work with!

Each winter, we always dig around the internet for flight deals and flight sales to get out of dodge. I love Chicago, but holy cow- does it get cold and windy in the winter! Seriously, this city isn’t for the faint of heart. Especially the people who live and work by the lakefront in the winter.
Jason and I found a sale flight to Cartagena, Colombia for a couple of days. So we skipped the cold and embarked on the quest to capture some Cartegena Travel Photography. This city was amazingly beautiful. we spent most of our time within the city walls of this old port town. All of the people were so incredibly friendly in Cartegena! Jason also found the location of each and every Juan Valdez coffee shop in the vicinity to enforce his lifelong quest of caffeination.
The city is vibrant and colorful- and you are allowed to walk around on the old fort walls. The musicians and nightlife in Cartegena was also amazing- from street performers to musicians at the cafes.
When we travel, we try to shoot mainly film. This was our first trip where we didn’t even bring our digital cameras with us. We always shoot film while abroad. Film is timeless with a dreamy grain.
