Eeek! I’m so excited to show you guys Erica and John’s Cafe Brauer wedding!
It was our first wedding of the 2016 season. We couldn’t have started our Chicago wedding photography year with a nicer couple for their Cafe Brauer wedding. Erica and John were/are awesome! We ventured were outside in March for their photos and they were such troopers to brave the chilly weather right on Lake Michigan. I’m glad that the bridesmaids had long dresses on – thanks Jenny Yoo! We were all filled with warm thoughts, good vibes, and love, which helped keep us all warm.
Erica and John had their wedding festivities at the historic Cafe Brauer in Lincoln Park. It is an amazingly beautiful space made by Perkins & Hamilton in a Prairie Style architecture. It is one of our favorite spots in the Chicago to photography.
Erica’s bouquet, the bridesmaid’s dresses, and all of the other details mimicked the lavender and prairie green in Cafe Brauer Wedding’s space. We started the day off at Hotel Lincoln– which is conveniently close, FILLED with Mid Century Modern furniture and amazing antiques, which are all locally sourced. Anything mid-century modern and vintage warms my heart. We also took a trip to the roof to Hotel Lincoln’s – The J. Parker.
Checkout the photos from their big day below.

Lily and John wanted to have a destination wedding in Chicago.
Since it’s a main hub, it makes it easier for family to be able to attend. They decided that a Spiaggia Chicago Wedding overlooking Lake Michigan was the perfect venue for them and family to be able to enjoy delicious food and to later get their groove on.
When we met Lily and John, they were in the midst of planning their move to Hawaii- cargo loading and all of that craziness, as John was going to be stationed there after his homecoming.
John and Lily got ready together in their hotel room- which I loved. It was so zen and calming in the room. I thought it was pretty awesome that they are getting ready together, I mean- if you’re marrying your best friend, it’s only right to get to spend the whole day with them right? And not to mention, their view was pretty awesome as well.
They eloped before John was deployed, so they decided to have a family blessing instead of a traditional ceremony for their Spiaggia Chicago Wedding. You’ll be able to see it in the photos as both John and Lily’s dad’s performed the family blessing together. It was quite sweet. <3
Oh Lily, your smile is contageous. This shot of them getting ready together is one of my favorite photos from this year.
Succulents, Giant White orchids and Hydrangeas? Oh so amazing!!! Thank you Dilly Lily.
John’s sweet neice.
The sweet family blessing.
Last quick spot for the Spiaggia Chicago Wedding across the street. 🙂

John and Lily had their Chicago engagement session with us the week of their wedding as they live in Sunny and Tropical Hawaii. They wanted to have their wedding in fabulous Chicago since family is based all over the US and Canada, and Chicago makes for a great meeting point (thank you O’hare airport, we couldn’t do it without you) 🙂
I always find it wonderful when families travel for important life events, the closeness and emotion is lovely.
John and Lily met through John’s sister, with whom Lily was fast friends with back in San Diego- and the love blossomed from there. In the midst of planning their own ‘destination’ wedding of sorts from Hawaii, John was also serving our country overseas. Our favorite question for them was when we asked if/where they plan on going on their honeymoon, they simply answered ‘No, we live in Hawaii.’ So true, so true.
By the way, John has quite an excellent fashion sense, between Lily’s wedding shoe hunt for the perfect color and John’s multi-print pocket square, I cannot wait for you to see their wedding. In the meantime, here is their Chicago Engagement Session.
Growing up, I was surrounded by nostalgia. Tin and wooden toys are a few of my favorite things- so when we went to Cozy Noodle for Owen and Matt’s Chicago engagement photography session, we had a plethora of amazingness. Added in with that, the interior of the space paired with the autumn backdrop colors quite well. Fall in Illinois is downright breathtaking. So when Owen and Matt said they had a blanket- well, we had a field. 🙂
They are getting married at Architectural Artifacts later this summer, so speaking of being surrounded by nostalgia- it couldn’t be at a better wedding venue. Can’t wait!
Bea and Steven are getting married tomorrow!! So, what a perfect time to share their Chicago engagement photography session!
Knock on wood- we have thankfully bypassed the crazy snow/hail storm today to make room for a bright sunny day for their wedding at Artango tomorrow. Being a lover of Jeans over Lace- Bea was super excited to get Chicago engagement photography done as a great way to practice before their big day. Steven and Bea met when Bea started teaching at Steven’s school. She was placed under Steven’s wing to co-teach with, and it all started from there. That first date? Well, it didn’t start as a date, just as friends going out for a drink at a Sports bar- but throughout those hours, those looks across across the table, you just know something special is taking place- and from Bea voicing her feelings, it all started from there.
Can’t wait for tomorrow! 🙂
Back to Jak’s Tap where it all began.
